Upcoming Deadline to File Claims
Christian Brother Edward Courtney at Brother Rice High School
“The Change … Is for the Best of All Around…”
After abusing students at Brother Rice, a leader of the Christian Brothers wrote to his colleague and explained they “thought it would be best for Chris Courtney to be changed out of Brother Rice. Though it may be a bit difficult for him at first to accept the change I believe he will understand that it is for the best of all concerned.” You can read the entire letter by clicking here.
A Dangerous Mind
In March 1974, after they had removed him from three schools in Illinois and one in Michigan, the Christian Brothers voted that Edward Courtney should have “no contact with Rice, Leo or Laurence in any way, shape or form. His sole contact man is to be Bernie Rohan, who will keep us informed of his developments.” View of a copy of their decision regarding Brother Edward Courtney and Brother Rohan by clicking here.
Four years later, that same Brother Rohan recommended Edward Courtney for a teaching certificate in Washington. He told the authorities in Washington that Courtney “maintained good order in his classes without being harsh or rigid” and “approached the task with a basic fairness and sensitivity to the individual student.” You can read a complete copy of Brother Rohan’s glowing letter of recommendation for Brother Edward Courtney.
